About

The landscapes that Leo de la O (*1986, Bayamo, Cuba) recreates start from the document and materialize in a sphere of relative unreality. It is the realm of memory, of nostalgia, which have so much to do with reverie. On a photograph, the artist superimposes layers of a relative abstract vocation, which are the ones that ultimately round off the atmosphere. The metaphor is beautiful: this is how our memories somehow operate, nuanced by the mist of time. Leo de la O proposes a very intimate journey, from shared references. His works are ultimately an invitation: the viewer will be able to accommodate their own vision of the context, their notions of history... based on certain guidelines provided by the artist. In the end, history is not an exact science: it is a malleable construction.
