ALEJANDRA OLIVA Y MANUEL LUGO
About
With their photographs, Alejandra Oliva and Manuel Lugo leave a detailed testimony of the process of restoring works of art and at the same time give new meaning to that testimony. Each of these pieces seem to establish the poetics of the fragmentary. The whole can be infinitely divided and each of these parts can be constituted in an autonomous network. The plastic values of each of the pieces are evident: they could pass for relative abstractions, with peculiar notions of balance in composition, color distribution and textures. The attentive eye will immediately discover elements of a figuration: the canvas, the layers of paint, the cracks... The photographs then become a recreation of a process that we do not fully understand: the vision of a whole is missing. But in each of these fragments there is a logic, which can suggest clues. More than seeing, glimpsing. In the end, what matters is reconfiguring, distancing yourself from a reference to illuminate new meanings. And that is one of the capacities of art.
