They have an ancient burial practice whereby a mutant child is left to die in an open tomb. There was a backlash from a certain group that tabooed it, and it is getting fiercer. This family had been through a hard time with taking care of the mutation of their child, and decided to let him go. When they were attacked, they just realized that they had an also old mutated organ underneath their brain, and it was not the group who attacked them, but karma. A child foretold, inspired by that karma, that death would come upon their parents, not himself.
