The Lovers Bridge
Inkjet Print
60 x 40 cm
Lovers Bridge is inspired by the artist’s personal experience in memory of a romantic relationship. Taken in 2020, the work is set at Lovers Bridge, a famous tourist attraction in Shek O, Hong Kong. It is where the artist took his last photograph with his ex-lover in 2018, right before they ended their relationship. Soon after their breakup, the bridge was then destroyed by the typhoon “Mangkhut.” For the artist, this incident symbolized their love being destroyed by the irresistible force of nature. Two years later, the artist revisited the bridge and made this photo. For a short shooting period, the figure enters the frame, stays for a while, and leaves, resulting in a silhouette effect in the photograph, just like how the artist’s ex-lover entered and left his life. The photographic process implies the process of the artist opening his heart, with the flashing white light symbolizing the inner energy gained by reconciliation with himself.
