The Golden Calf / El becerro de oro
Oil on canvas
129.5 x 115.5 cm
In The Golden Calf, I address the critique of idolatry and false worship in contemporary society. Taking the biblical narrative as a starting point, I draw a parallel between the worship of supposed leaders and divine punishment. The work questions the values and beliefs that guide our society, highlighting the devastating consequences of blindly following ideals and figures that promise an illusory salvation. At its core, the painting becomes a meditation on the fragility of blind faith and its impact on social and political structures, inviting viewers to reflect on the nature of their own convictions.
