Eva's faces

Graphite on paper

50 x 65 cm

I use the traditional concept of nude, appropriating its representation at a time where it was only accepted as an expression of ideal beauty. I use the image of ancient, classic and modern works of art history integrated into the underwear of the figures, with the intention of establishing a parallel and, in some way, transferring the sensuality, beauty and delicacy of these images to the present and rescue certain values, sometimes absent in contemporary life.

Two Faces Of Eve

Lisandra Isabel García

Art is everywhere, goes a rather questionable saying. In reality, for there to be art, there must be a disposition: it is not that art is nature. A nude can be art, but it depends on the look. In other words, the angle, the nuances, the ineffable poetry... the rituals of creation. Lisandra Isabel García appropriates iconic representations of the female nude (canons associated with classical or Renaissance beauty) and updates them in a discourse that bridges latent dynamics on the socialization of artistic production. References of universal art are inserted in a minimalist recreation of female bodies in underwear. As if paintings of yesteryear adorned those garments. But it is not a mere decorative vocation. Several dualities are established here: history and contemporaneity, reality and imagination, unique work and serialization... And also, with great delicacy, polemics about the representation of the female body are alluded to. With skill and fine sensitivity Lisandra Isabel García defends the usefulness of beauty, its necessity. In times of an overwhelming technological race, she is committed to an intimate relationship with art, which can constitute a haven in the midst of so many turbulences.
