Linda Vilka

Latvia

Linda Vilka (1995) is a multi disciplinary artist and storyteller from Latvia. She has done Erasmus+ exchange in Lithuania and the Netherlands and has graduated from Art Academy of Latvia with a BA and MA in Environmental Arts. Currently she’s working towards a Phd in Arts and Design and is also a lecturer in Art Academy of Latvia. Previous experiences include studying interior design, visual merchandising, being a rye spike cutter, blueberry farmer, art director, one day bar owner and so much more. She’s the creator of Embassy of Targale and Targale’s Artist Residency, co-owner of Riga’s Highest Gallery and co-creator of Akniste Gardeners Association project. She constantly participates in projects in Latvia and outside of it, has done solo exhibitions in the Netherlands and Latvia, latest being “BREAK-me-DOWN-tomorrow” exhibition, curated by Tina Petersone. She organises contemporary events, group expos and community art projects, as well as has participated in group shows in Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. Awards - "Best Magazine Cover" award for JEZGA at Riga Fashion Awards, 82nd LMA Carnival Utopia/Distopia installation 2nd place award for “Parallel civilisation”, in visual merchandising - bronze medalist at EuroSkills 2016 Gothenburg, medal of Excellence at WorldSkills 2017 Abu Dhabi, Cabinet of Minister’s and Ministry of Culture awards for both occasions.

International Exhibition

The residency program in Zadar provided space and conditions for individual and collective creation and production of artworks, exchange of knowledge among young female artists and curators. That international program gathered young female artists from different countries, selected by six female curators form Europe and WB. Artworks created during the two-weeks residential program are an integral part of the collective exhibition in physical and virtual reality. The exhibition Women about Women, residential is a logical continuation of the project goals. Twenty-nine international female young artists made a various artwork, expressions on paintings, sculptures, installation in glass, textile, paper, videos, performance etc. It carries a strong message of female angle of creativity in the contemporary visual art and energy of youth and diversity. Heterogeneity of visual expression is an inevitable phenomenon of the modern age as well as the diversity of media in which or with which they are expressed. Diversity of approaching to the females’ identities is a logical artistic response to the live in the modern age.
