The HEK (House of Electronic Arts) in Basel is dedicated to digital culture and the new art forms of the information age. Creative and critical discourses on the aesthetic, socio-political and economic effects of media technologies have been taking place here since 2011. The HEK shows contemporary art that explores and designs new technologies; it promotes an aesthetic practice that uses information technology as a medium, makes it clear and actively intervenes in its processes. In this way, the HEK is tackling the urgent questions about culture in the 21st century and making an active contribution to conveying them. As an interdisciplinary museum, the institution deals with current art events in the visual arts, music, theatre, dance, performance and design across all disciplines. The HEK offers a broad public insights into art productions at the interface of art, media and technology. In a diverse program consisting of exhibitions, performances, concerts, smaller festival formats, educational offers and online offers, the house takes up current social topics and issues. In addition to its continuous event and exhibition activities, the HEK deals with the collection methods of digital art. With these tasks, the HEK occupies a unique position and pioneering role in Switzerland. Striving to depict, document and promote current trends in media art, the HEK initiates and values ​​close collaboration with artists, researchers and institutions from Germany and abroad. In recent years, the HEK has established itself as a competence center for media art in Switzerland through its connection to global discourses.
