Biography
Yonlay Cabrera & Claudio Sotolongo are a Cuban artistic duo whose collaborative work merges digital art, graphic design, and visual research from complementary perspectives. Their practice explores the intersection of technology, collective memory, and urban space, engaging with the symbolic possibilities of images in contemporary contexts. Cabrera is an artist, designer, and academic with a PhD and MA in Media Art from Tama Art University in Tokyo, and a BA in Art History from the University of Havana. He has worked as a motion designer for international brands such as Samsung, LG, and UberEATS, and has exhibited his work at major events like the Ars Electronica Festival (Austria), the Havana Biennial (2022, 2024), and solo exhibitions in Japan. His artistic research focuses on the relationship between art, digital media, and symbolic invention. Sotolongo is a graphic designer, visual artist, and university professor with a strong focus on visual memory and urban archiving. He is a two-time recipient of the Rome Prize from the Royal Academy of Spain (2017, 2019) and won the Coral Award for Best Poster at the Havana Film Festival (2018). His work has been shown at international design biennials in Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and is part of renowned collections such as the Cuban Cinematheque, the CSPG (USA), and the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich. Together, they bring their individual careers into a collaborative practice that weaves art, archives, design, and visual critique into a transnational dialogue grounded in present-day cultural reflection.
