The Hyde Vase

Vase

The Vinča culture

5300-4300 BC

clay

This vessel is named after Charles Hyde the benefactor of the research at Vinča. It is made out of clay, in the shape of a bird with human head with a pentagonal face. Nose and eyes are 3D modelled. Two large, almost spherical protrusions are found on the top of the figure head. The outer surface of the pot is well burnished and decorated with fine channelling. There are some accents on the back performed with thick black color, probably bitumen or birch tar.
