This grinding installation is a composite tool - it is made from several parts. Stone quern is inserted into a vessel made out of daub. Daub is a mixture of clay and chaff as is used in prehistory as a building material, as well as for the production of utility objects and construction parts. While grinding, the produced flour sips into the daub vessel and is stored there, with fewer loses to the product. These type of grinding installations are not a common feature at prehistoric sites, and their location within buildings indicates parts of houses used for food preparation.
